2020 Audi A3 vs 2020 Infiniti Q50 Comparison in Columbus, OH

The Audi A3 is a small sedan that perfectly combines Audi luxury with remarkable value. It's the ideal companion for those who love the benefits of driving a small car, but still desire to travel in comfort and style. Though the Audi A3 isn't the only small luxury car out there, it's the one that best combines comfort with a compact footprint. When you look at the Infiniti Q50, for example, you'll notice that it goes big on power but skimps on luxury. On this page, we'll take a deeper dive into comparing these two cars so you can see just why Audi is the superior choice for your lifestyle.

2020 Audi A3 vs 2020 Infiniti Q50: Design

From the signature Singleframe® grille to the sculpted LED taillights, the Audi A3 is a dynamic, attractive car. Though we think its bold design is superior to that of the Infiniti Q50, we realize that looks alone aren't all that there is to design. Fortunately, the Audi A3 also comes with a number of quality features that set it apart. Take the roof, for example. Every 2020 Audi A3 comes with a panoramic sunroof that makes the cabin feel lighter and roomier. The Infiniti Q50 lacks any sunroof on the entry level, and the available upgrade is not panoramic, but covers only the front seats. The Audi A3 sports 18-inch alloy wheels, while the standard wheels on the Infiniti Q50 are 17 inches. The superior Audi design includes the interior, as well. You'll find leather upholstery in the 2020 Audi A3, while the base Infiniti Q50 has leatherette surfaces instead.

2020 Audi A3 vs 2020 Infiniti Q50: Interior Features

In addition to being more refined, the cabin of the Audi A3 is also better equipped than that of the Infiniti Q50. Heated front seats are standard in the Audi A3, but only an available upgrade in the Infiniti Q50. Both cars have eight-way power-adjustable front seats, but only the Audi A3 comes standard with power-adjustable lumbar adjustment. To get the same feature in the Infiniti Q50, you'll have to pay extra. The differences even extend to the audio systems. The standard Infiniti Q50 comes with a six-speaker system, which is the type of thing you'd expect to find in a non-luxury car. By comparison, the entry-level Audi A3 comes with a ten-speaker system. You'll simply get better features at a lower trim level in the Audi A3.

2020 Audi A3 vs 2020 Infiniti Q50: Performance

What the 2020 Infiniti Q50 lacks in panache, it attempts to make up for in power. There's no doubt about it: with its standard 300-horsepower engine, the Infiniti Q50 is much more powerful than the Audi A3. That's not to say that the A3 isn't powerful on its own: it comes with either a standard 180-horsepower engine or an upgraded 228-horsepower engine. Of course, there's much more to driving experience than power, and the Audi A3 is much better suited to the daily drive. It's over 14 inches shorter than the Infiniti Q50, and its wheelbase is 8.4 inches shorter. This means that the Audi A3 is more nimble and maneuverable. In fact, Car and Driver wrote that the Infiniti Q50 they tested had a "jittery, sometimes harsh ride" and that the steering is "light but not quick and lacks feedback." By comparison, they wrote that the Audi A3 has "spirited handling" and "perky turbocharged engines."

The extra power in the Infiniti Q50 may be good for the track, but it means that it burns through fuel much faster. Choose the Infiniti and you may find yourself stopping to refill the gas tank much more often than you would in the Audi A3. That's because the 2020 Audi A3 gets up to 36 miles per gallon, while the Infiniti Q50 maxes out at 29 mpg.
